Scripts and Storyboards

Dear blog readers,
Exciting news! I finished my first rough draft for my film opening script and attached it below! (title is still tentative) You'll find there's not a ton of dialogue in it, a choice I made intentionally make the film more of a reflection of the protagonist's inner feelings. I find that when you're so caught up in your thoughts, there's just not a whole lot to say or explain. Instead, I'm going to be relying heavily on mise-en-scène, lighting, costuming, and other elements to tell the story.

I intend for my film opening to have a very artistic feeling to it, as some of my favorite films take this approach. For example, the movie "The Secret Life of Walter Mitty" which is a calm movie that utilizes its amazing visuals and set to appeal and engage the audience.

Here are some of my favorite examples from the film that rely on visuals to convey the mood and feelings of the protagonist.

A) Here, the use bright lighting and Walter's facial expression convey a feeling of focus and excitement while the mountain setting represents the connection to nature and the universe in this scene. Overall, it is understood that this is a more upbeat scene in the film.

B) On a duller note, this scene's main colors consist of black, white, and grey (it also utilizes lots of straight lines). The combination of elements in this set's design with, once again, Walter's bleak expression reflect his emotions of annoyance, boredom, and even feeling out of place.

Some other news are that I developed the rough draft for my storyboard of scene 1 (it's definitely not very pretty because I am not very good at drawing but I tried) which is the picture below.
I also confirmed who would be acting and let them know of the filming day (same as calendar). I myself will be playing Sylvie, my mom will play Sylvie's mom, and two of my friends will play Ellie and Violet (Sylvie's friends).

I hope you liked reading my script and getting a glimpse of my storyboard! (P.S. another one of my film recommendations would definitely be "The Secret Life of Walter Mitty". It's such beautiful movie and truly one of my favorites).
